The Department of statistics was established in 1988 with the major objective of developing it into a centre of excellence in th region, in statistics and its applications and to provide facilities for training, study and research in these areas. Dr. K Kumaranakutty is the founder professor of the department.  The Department is rooted in philosophy of training and research that emphasizes the intimate relationship between University and community and seeks to promote the criterion of a scientifically motivated society.  Inside the Main Campus of the University, it is housed in close to the University main bus stop on the national high way
